A Maremma guardian dog standing next to a Kiko Buck

Welcome to Unfinished Acres!

Mark & Becky have been living in the Sierra Foothills for over 30 years. After a great deal of riding horses, bikes and running the trails, they decided that creating a ranch was the logical next step.

Starting with a bare 60 acre parcel, Unfinished Acres is now 130 acres in what we feel is one of the prettiest mountain communities in America.

Being in the mountains, the livestock has to be hardy to thrive and the LGDs have to be able to handle coyote, bear, mountain lions and the occasional stray human.

We’ve tried a little bit of everything.  We’ve raised chickens and rabbits for meat, have had up to 24 Nubian dairy goats in milk, Boers, Kikos, Katahdin Sheep, Great Pyrenees and Maremmas in addition to a stray horse or two to keep things interesting.

What we’ve found as we’ve fine-tuned our livestock is that for us, the Kiko is an exceptional meat goat and the Maremmas seem to be the best fit for small ranches.  After eight years we are now specializing in Kiko, Percentage Kiko and Maremmas. They’re a great match for us and for many ranches with similar goals.

Our Maremmas are partners not pets, livestock guardians, not companions.

With regards to Maremmas, our goal is to have our dogs self-reliant as they are on their own with their charges 24/7.

We hope to have one of the strongest Kiko lines on the West Coast.

Check out our Kiko page to see why we think we do.

Welcome to Our World

There ain’t a single thing we own
And take with us when we’re gone
So I’ll just walk the earth a while
Lend a hand and leave a smile
